Roadside Inspection Procedures
Per FMCSA 395.15 (g): Each commercial motor vehicle must have on-board the commercial motor vehicle an information packet containing the following items:
(1) An instruction sheet describing in detail how data may be stored and retrieved from an automatic on-board recording system; and
(2) A supply of blank driver's records of duty status graph-grids sufficient to record the driver's duty status and other related information for the duration of the current trip.
A digital copy of the Motive DOT Reference Card is available on the Driver Resources Page. You must be able to provide a copy of the DOT Reference Card to the officer if requested.
If you are selected for a random Roadside inspection, you must IMMEDIATELY send a copy of the Roadside Inspection Report to the Landstar Equipment Compliance Department by emailing it to ROADSIDE@LANDSTAR.COM. All Roadside inspections must be reported to Blue Ribbon Leadership and a copy of the report must be scanned into your truck’s Dropbox folder. If it is a clean inspection with no violations, no further action is necessary.
If a violation is discovered, but it is NOT an Out of Service order, a Proof of Correction must be submitted to Landstar Equipment Compliance as soon as the correction has been completed.
In the event that a violation is serious enough to trigger an OUT OF SERVICE order, there are additional procedures that must be followed in order for you to be released to drive again after the repairs are complete.
Once the Out of Service violation has been repaired, you must fill out a Proof of Correction Report. A copy of the POC report, the failed inspection, and the paid repair invoice must be emailed to Roadside@landstar.com. You MUST immediately call Landstar Equipment Compliance (800) 872-9543 and report that you have emailed in. They will go over your documents and release you to drive again. YOU CANNOT MOVE THE TRUCK AN INCH UNDER AN OUT OF SERVICE ORDER. LANDSTAR WILL IMMEDIATELY DISQUALIFY YOU FOR VIOLATING AN OUT OF SERVICE ORDER.
Any time you send documents to Landstar, ALWAYS follow up with a phone call to the respective department to confirm receipt.
